Shawarma Chicken Skewers Recipe

Juicy, marinated chicken thighs seasoned with Basira’s Shawarma Blend, grilled or roasted and wrapped in flatbread with pickles and creamy garlic sauce.

 - What Makes It Special?

Our Shawarma Blend is a savoury, garlicky spice mix that transforms chicken, lamb, or vegetables into something truly special. With notes of cumin, paprika and warming spice, it’s perfect for home-style wraps and platters.

 - Ingredients

  • 500g boneless, skinless chicken thighs

  • 1½ tablespoons Basira Shawarma Blend

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 3 tablespoons plain yoghurt

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • Salt to taste

  • Skewers (if using wooden, soak in water for 30 minutes)

 - Method

  1. Cut chicken thighs into large chunks.

  2. In a bowl, combine Shawarma Blend, garlic, lemon juice, yoghurt, olive oil and salt.

  3. Add chicken and mix well. Cover and marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight.

  4. Thread chicken onto skewers.

  5. Grill over medium heat or bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and cooked through.

  6. Serve in flatbreads with pickled vegetables, garlic sauce or tahini, and fresh herbs.

- Tips & Variations

  • Make it a bowl with rice, greens, and a dollop of hummus.

  • Try the same marinade on mushrooms or halloumi for a veggie version.
